Google commits to 100% green power for European data centres

| June 10, 2015

Google reportedly said it wants to power its four data centres in Europe with 100% green energy. The company did not say how it will source the renewable energy required for existing data centres in Finland, Belgium, and Ireland and an upcoming facility in Netherlands.

According to Telecompaper, Google’s sites have been carbon neutral since 2007 through offsets via 1 gigawatts of wind, solar, and hydro power that the company has purchased. To date, about 35% of the energy used by its thirteen data centres worldwide are from renewable sources.
