Carinae Group building 10,000m2 green facility outside Paris
Etix DataCenter, a new facility outside Paris, now promises to deliver the lowest PUE (power usage effectiveness) rating in France by introducing a number of green design and technologies. According to the company, the new facility will be designed to deliver a PUE rating of no more than 1.5, which means that at least two thirds of the power entering the facility will be used by the electronics and not for the passive infrastructure such as cooling and UPS.
So makes Etix DataCenter green? According to the developers, the site will adopt some level of free cooling as well as so-called, cold corridors – presumably as part of a hot-and-cold aisle design. The builders will also enhanced energy efficiency “based on advanced research for competitive equipment” to sure better output, high performance ratio in terms of energy.
The result is a facility that will consume 35% less energy than a current data centre, the company said.
The facility will also be built using environmentally-friendly materials, and be designed to comply with international standards ISO 2700:2005 and ISO 14001. The facility will also subscribe to a program called, “Equilibre Plus” from the power supplier, EDF, who will put in its network an equivalent amount of power from renewable energy sources for every kWh purchased under the program.
When completed, Etix DataCenter will offer a total of 10,000m2 of hosting space split into 16 private or shared areas. According to the developer, the Tier 4 facility will have one of the highest power densities in the market with basic power density at 1.875 kW/m2.
The new facility, being built by Irish high-tech conglomerate, Carinae Group, through its French subsidiary, will be located inside a former mail sorting office of the French postal provider, La Poste, North East of Paris in the town of Pantin, just 15 minutes from the city’s business district. Etix DataCentre will begin ‘rehabilitating’ the site this July with the first 4,000m2 scheduled for launch by Q4 2011.
The construction is being carried out by two subsidiaries of the Bouygues Construction Group, Brezillon for the enclosed and covered portion and ETDE for the technical components of the facility. Etix DataCenter has also engaged Critical Building and Sodearif as consultants for the construction project.
