RCom brings sub-$5,000 wireless video conference to India with Polycom
Reliance Communications has teamed up with Polycom to bring wireless, high resolution video conferencing to India for a starting pricing of less than US$5,000.
The new service will bundle the Polycom QDX 6000 system with a VPN connection from Reliance Netconnect Broadband + wireless broadband data card. The service will cost an initial Rs 2 lakh (about US$4,400) for the equipment bundle, and an monthly connection plans of about Rs 1,500 (US$33), which includes 10GB of usage.
The service will be marketed by the Reliance ADA Group’s retail arm, Reliance Webstore. The system enables high resolution video and CD-quality audio even at a bandwidth of 256kbps.
According to this report by the Hindu newspaper, the service represents a ‘mass enabler of video conferencing usage across multiple industry verticals in India.”
“With Polycom alliance, we are making video conferencing a simple plug-and-play operation that can be deployed and used virtually anytime, anywhere,” said Sarup Chowdhary, CEO and director of Reliance Webstore.
