Tata Communications to add 25 new public Telepresence sites in 2010

Tata Communications aims to add another 25 public Telepresence rooms this year. The new rooms will bring the total number of public Telepresence rooms operated by Tata to 38 by year end.

As part of its global partnership with Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Tata recently launched two new Telepresence rooms at the W Chicago City Center Hotel in the US, and the Sheraton on the Park in Sydney, Australia, bringing rooms connected to its network to 13 as of March 2010.

Tata Communications now operates rooms in Boston, Chicago, Manila, Sydney, Bangalore (2), Chennai, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Mumbai, London and Johannesburg.

The operator aims to launch another three locations inside Starwood properties by April 2010 – the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers, the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel and the Westin Los Angeles Airport. Another six locations will be added in the Middle East and Africa by the end of 2010 while new sites are planned for San Francisco, Dallas, Washington DC, Paris, Brussels, Frankfurt, Munich, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur also this year.

    Interesting story Tony.

    I wonder if Tata are planning interoperable sites with other locations and VC vendors? I suspect we’ll see more hotel chains partnering with VC vendors doing this..

  2. Saw a demo this (telepresence) recently. I hate video conferencing, but this was something else. It was scary how close to having an actual meeting it was. Certainly something we will use in the future.

    Glad telepresence is spreading. We have been using this technology to link schools in Africa especially Ghana. Anybody wants to try it?
