TANDBERG demos telepresence interoperability with Cisco’s TIP
Less than a week after Cisco released its Telepresence Interoperability Protocol (TIP) to the industry, TANDBERG, who is being acquired by Cisco, showed off interoperability between its telepresence systems and those of Cisco.
The successful demonstration was conducted between TANDBERG Telepresence and the Cisco CTS 3000. According to TANDBERG, Cisco TelePresence solutions will be added to the list of third-party telepresence solutions it can seamlessly interoperate with while maintaining the three-screen, high-definition telepresence experience.

Today’s demonstration reflects TANDBERG’s continued commitment to open standards, providing scalable solutions and protecting our customers’ video investments for the future.”

According to TANDBERG, it was the first to demonstrate a telepresence that can interoperate with third party telepresence systems, including Microsoft Office Communicator.
Interoperability with Cisco CTS 3000 and other Cisco systems will be available through a software upgrade to the TANDBERG Telepresence Server later this year.

Interoperability is just one of the technical factors that need to be overcome for widespread uptake of VC. Probably the bigger challenges will be around user acceptance of the technology. As solutions become more pervasive and move to the desk we should see greater uptake.
