Hong Kong-based CPCNet, a subsidiary of Hong Kong-listed CITIC 1616, has launched its VC2 (VC-squared) service, a high definition-enabled video conferencing service based on a platform from US vendor, Vidyo.
“Enterprises affected by the economic turmoil are seeking to control budgets, and are refocusing resources on their core businesses,” said Stephen Ho, CEO of CPCNet. “As a customer-centric company, we aim to provide customers with the highest quality managed services, thus enabling them to lower their IT management costs and leverage on the advantages of advanced technology. This innovative solution not only removes the barrier of high-cost of equipment investment; but also helps enterprises save almost 80% of travelling costs.”
According to CPCNet, the Vidyo platform uses the latest H.264/SVC (scalable video coding) technology to enable HD-based video communications between conference rooms, officer users on desktop PCs and mobile workers on laptop computers. The platform supports sessions over corporate intranets, VPNs, as well as the Internet, including 3G and Wi-Fi access environments.
CPCNet is offering the service over its own TrueCONNECT MPLS-IP VPN infrastructure, as well as other IP networks. The service offers an automatic bandwidth adjustment feature, which maximises video quality over different network types.
“It enables endpoints to interoperate seamlessly from HD room systems to personal computers within the same conference via converged IP networks, whether it is in High Definition (HD), Standard Definition (SD) or Low Definition (LD), without the requirements of an additional gateway or a MicroController Unit (MCU),” the company said. “Users can now enjoy high quality videoconferencing services with incredibly short delays, which allow interactive meetings and mosaic-free videos.”
According to Richard Ong, country manager of CPCNet Singapore, the VC2 service will be offered on a monthly, pay-as-you-go basis. “We have received positive feedback from our customers who went through trial usage of the VC2 service and we are confident that more companies will subscribe to this service by the end of this year.”
