GSM goes into environmentally-friendly lawnmower robot
Swedish gardening and outdoor equipment producer Husqvarna has incorporated GSM technology into a new robot that mows and fertilises your lawn all on its own lonesome. The Automower 260 ACX now comes built in with its own GSM account and will text the owner when it needs attention.
The reason why the Automower 260 actually needs a GSM line is that it is completely automated so it works day and night by itself without any supervision. More importantly, it is designed for large lawns, like 6000 m2 large, so if it does get into trouble, like getting stuck, you might not necessarily be able to see it from your sitting room.
Besides being good to your immediate environment (your lawn), the Automower 260 is also good for the environment in general. It runs on electricity so no emissions, and it actually uses the cut-offs from its work as fertifilser for your lawn. It also scares off bugs, moles, slugs and other garden pests – if you let it work at night, the company said.
Husqvarna is selling the Automover 260 for 4,000 euros, presumably without the GSM subscription.
