Wipro to ‘green’ the development of ‘green’ telecoms products
India-based Wipro Technologies, one of the largest product engineering and support service providers for the ICT sector, has now launched an integrated solution set to help telecoms equipment manufacturers to green their product development process.
Marketed as “Green ICT” and “ICT for Green”, the company says that the new solutions will help green, not only to products, but also the product development and testing process of telecoms equipment.
“With our expertise in telecom product engineering, we offer consultancy and implementation services to address Design for Environment (DfE) issues for telecom products, operational costs and energy footprint reduction in product development lifecycle for equipment vendors.” said P Subrahmanyam, Senior Vice President and Head of Telecom Equipment Business at Wipro Technologies. “Our product redesign services for energy efficiency and RoHS, REACH compliance inherently consider cost reduction possibilities for a faster ROI.” he added.
As part of the announcement, Wipro says it has developed a “Green Test Lab” solution that will help product developers to reduce the energy footprint of telecoms test labs. The solution combines Virtualization techniques with the company’s Test Automation Services (WTAS) frame to improve efficiencies when manufacturers bring products to market.
Another key offering from the new initiative is Wipro’s so-called, lifecycle analysis (LCA), which the company is developing to create a systematic approach to creating green products.
To sum up, Wipro’s new solutions aims to help telecoms equipment makers more efficiently develop their products as well as ensuring enhanced environmental sustainability during the life of the product, presumably including efforts such as take back, recycling and so on.
“Today, many operators and vendors have announced various green initiatives and developed wide eco-sustainability programs. However, especially in the current challenging economical environment, every decision is business-driven. As such it is critical that, in addition to the positive environmental impact which everyone acclaims and the obvious effect on branding, these ‘green policies’ also mean money savings. In this respect, any solutions that help to precisely assess and optimize the impact of such initiatives are welcome.” said Julien Grivolas, Principal Analyst – Networks & Technology, Ovum.
