Telstra’s new Polycom video conferencing capped plan
By Sonia Han, CommsDay
Telstra has launched a new monthly capped plan for its enterprise and government customers which allows them to bundle their video conferencing with hardware, data access, connectivity and usage.
The service will initially be available for metro sites with plans to roll out to regional Australia in 2009. The new approach to HD video conferencing, known as 1 Touch Video service, will initially allow customers to choose a meeting room sized video conference over dual screen on the Polycom HDX 8004 or the smaller Polycom HDX 4002XL designed for the executive office.
According to Telstra convergent sales executive director Paul Geason, the new service is designed to meet the growing “headache” reported by customers overwhelmed by the complexity of bringing video conferencing to their organisation.
“Our customers can pay a flat monthly fee, similar to a mobile plan, for a HD video conferencing service that takes care of the design, install, network and maintenance, with no upfront costs,” said Geason.
Australian firm Broadreach Services, which has worked with Telstra to deliver the video capability within Telstra’s Next IP network, believes that the new service will be a “defining” moment for video services to business in the country.
Polycom ANZ MD Michael Chetner said that video conferencing bundling on Telstra’s IP Video Network is a “fresh” approach with true collaboration to the market.
