Huawei has joined an environmental group for the ICT sector, making the Chinese firm the only Asian member of the Global e-Sustainability Initiative. With the move, Huawei hopes to influence the development of the global ICT industry together with other major players outside Asia.
“As people around the world are becoming increasingly concerned about global warming and environmental problems, world-leading ICT companies like Huawei, by promoting green communication through the development of energy saving and emission-reduction technologies, will be fundamental in the drive to reduce CO2 emissions globally,” said Luis Neves, chairman of the board of GeSI and head of sustainability and environment at Deutsche Telekom, on Huawei’s participation.
As an international organization aimed to promote energy saving and emission reduction in the ICT industry, GeSI coordinates environmental protection policies and implementation measures in the industry. It also influences the formulation of environmental protection standards and regulations, and promotes the development of the cause of environmental protection in the communication industry, said Huawei.
“By working closely with stakeholders across the value chain through GeSI, Huawei moves closer to achieving its goal of ‘Green Huawei, Green Communications, and a Green World’,” said Shu Xihui, from the energy saving and emission reduction department at Huawei.
