NSN supplies its Flexi Base Station to du in US$225m contract

Nokia Siemens Networks claims that the energy efficient characteristics of its Flexi Base Station has won the company a US$225 million turnkey network expansion deal with UAE operator, du.

The new contract includes a radio access solution that will support 2G, 3G and HSPA platforms and enables du to extend its network to cater for four million subscribers across the UAE, NSN said, adding that the implementation of the Flexi portfolio will enable up to 70% savings in site power consumption.

As part of the deal, du will also expand its mobile softswitching and Home Location Register solutions, as well as the related mediation system. du will continue to monitor, control, analyze and manage their network with the Nokia Siemens Networks network and service management solution.

The scope of work also comprises Internet-HSPA, an innovation providing future cost savings while boosting network’s capacity and enhancing user experience. In addition, support services will help du to improve commercial, operational and technical performance of its network, freeing them to focus on their core business, NSN said.
