Global exchange centre operator, Equinix, has joined the US EPA’s program to study the feasibility of establishing an ENERGY STAR rating program for green data centres.

Equinix’s participation in the program will include the collection of 12 consecutive months of IT and data center energy use data from June 2008 through June 2009 from a sampling of its US Internet Business Exchange centers. 150 data centre operators, including AT&T – as reported by Green Telecom, have signed up for the study.
