Verizon sets out green procurement guidelines
US carrier Verizon has published its own set of energy efficiency guidelines for equipment purchases after 1 January 2009. Equipment purchases after that date is expected to be at least 20% more efficient than today’s products, the company said.
The guidelines will include optical and video transport systems, switches and routers, DSLAM high speed Internet equipment and optical line termination gear, as well as switching power systems, data centre servers and power adapters that operate customer equipment. Verizon established its Telecommunications Equipment Energy Efficiency Ratings based on formulas that test the consumption of the equipment under various operating conditions and settings.
