Deutsche Telekom’s international arm, T-Systems, announced over the weekend that it will build a new 30,000 square feet ‘green’ data centre as part of an initiative to boost its operations in Singapore.

The company plans to invest an estimated “two-digit million” Singapore dollars in its new infrastructure over the next five years. The new data centre will further enhance T-Systems’ offerings in Singapore, including dynamic computing, managed services and disaster recovery services.

“Our increasing investment in Singapore reflects our commitment to provide greater support to our customers in Asia Pacific as well as to attract and retain the finest talent in the region,” said Thomas Jakob, CEO Singapore and Malaysia at T-Systems.

The new facility, which also includes an office expansion, will be built according to the principle of Green IT, the company said. “For example, through the materials used, both the data center and the new office space are designed to reduce detrimental effects on the environment. Blinds that reflect the heat are fitted in order to reduce the need for air conditioning, and revolutionary flooring that is kinder to the environment will also be a feature.”

As part of the new initiative, T-System’s existing building at Tai Seng Drive 23 will be renamed Deutsche Telekom Centre.
