Nokia Siemens helps Yangquan Coal improve communications efficiency

A new Nokia Siemens Network solution is expected to help China’s Yangquan Coal Industry (Group) Co. Ltd. achieve better efficiencies and improve service capabilities. The so-called Next Generation Network solution will replace Yangquan Coal’s legacy network infrastructure, with required the support from two different PSTN switches.

“The NGN solution from Nokia Siemens Networks will optimize the company’s existing fixed network by replacing the legacy switches, provide an increased number of flexible access nodes, and implement an Integrated Access Device (IAD), a customer-hosted device that acts as a media gateway for accessing an IP network that will enable Yangquan Coal Industry Group to efficiently scale up to the number of users,” Nokia said.

Zheng Haishan, Chairman of Telecommunications Technology Company Of Yangquan Coal Industry Group, said: “When we decided to upgrade our existing network and were evaluating between vendors, what struck us about Nokia Siemens Networks was their high performance products, rich, technical expertise, good service support and customer-focused attitude. We are keen to work with them to deliver new age flexible voice and multimedia services to our end users.”

As the first step, Yangquan Coal Industry Group will deploy Nokia Siemens Networks’ hiE9200 softswitch, the Trunk Gateway hiG1100, the Access Gateway Controller hiG1600, IAD and Digital Line Unit (DLU), which connects analog and PBX phones, in order to replace Yangquan’s existing access equipments. The company will simultaneously launch a SIP-based Application Server to offer VoIP-based voice & data converged service and multimedia applications such as video phone, color ring back tone, voice mailbox and soft SIP-phone.

“The deal is especially significant for us since it marks our first commercial NGN contract for a non-carrier customer in mainland China,” said Zhang Tong, Head of China Alternative Carriers, Nokia Siemens Networks Greater China region. “It is a good showcase to other enterprise customers that we have strong capability to provide effective and flexible NGN solutions.”

While the companies did not specifies how the new network will help Yangquan Coal become more efficient in its operations or reduce energy consumption and emissions, the deal is indicative of the business opportunities for ICT companies in helping corporations achieve more environmentally-friendly platforms.
