AT&T has launched a global telepresence service based on Cisco technology. The scalable solution will roll out in 23 nations by the end of year following current trials with select multinationals.
The managed service allows collaborators to effect live meetings from remote locations and is expected to be the first in a series of debut service collaborations by AT&T and Cisco Systems, with the carrier offering up its global IP network and VPN services and Cisco providing hardware and software. “The AT&T Telepresence Solution is the latest example of how we’re helping enterprises to improve ‘business velocity’ by enabling them to move quicker and make better business decisions,” said AT&T Global Business Services group president Ronald Spears. “Customers can take advantage of the power of the AT&T network and our expertise in providing world-class services to enjoy the multitude of benefits of this fully immersive collaboration technology.”
Cisco announced it has surpassed 500 units ordered from 29 countries since it launch TelePresence 18 months ago. “When we launched Cisco TelePresence and helped establish a new category in communications and collaboration, we were excited about the possibilities that this innovative technology would bring to the business world. Today, with the rapid adoption we’re seeing in this market, we’re looking at the next evolution of telepresence technology and look forward to making a significant impact on business operations, the environment and the ease with which people connect with each other,” said Cisco TelePresence Systems general manager Charles Stucki.
